Interview with Amanda from Adventures in Motherhood

Amanda and Family from Adventures in Motherhood

Adventures in Motherhood is a great mommy blog with regularly updated content.  To learn more about Amanda, go visit her site!

TBH: How did you get started blogging?

Amanda: I’m one of those people who enjoys reading the “about me” sections of peoples FaceBook pages. One day I noticed a friend had added a link to her blog in her “about me”  info. I wasn’t familiar with blogging about ones personal life but instantly became hooked with reading other Mommy blogs. I decided to start Adventures In Motherhood as a gift to my oldest child’s grandparents for Grandparents Day. Blogging became a way for me to share stories from our everyday life that I might not remember to tell the Grandmas when I spoke to them on the phone. It’s grown into so much more now though, instead of baby books for my kids… they have my blog! Someday I hope to make my blog into a book for each of them. The best advice my own Mommy gave me was this… “If you think you might want to remember it, write it down.”

TBH: What are some of your favorite blogs to read?

Amanda: I don’t know any of these women personally but sort of feel like I do! I love the diversity that Mommy blogging offers. I personally choose to share way too much info on my day to day life, for instance I could write an entire post on how my 10 month old pooped on the kitchen floor today, just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I look to Allison at No Time For Flashcards for great ideas on anything educational to try and do with my PreSchooler and also for her amazing children’s book reviews. Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman is like my personal blogger goddess, I even blog about how much I love her! Maria, the Bored Mommy had me at hello in this quote found in her “about me” section (I know here I go again obsessing about the “about me” sections)… “Being a Stay-At-Home Mom requires much patience, an obscene amount of caffeine and the ability to hide in closets. Thankfully, I have all three.” Like Maria, I also like to hide in closets! I think everyone should read Jess’s story at The Mac’s… she is a true Mommy blogger inspiration! I stumbled across Eve’s blog Infertility Rocks while reading an article on Mommy bloggers. I’ve been hooked since and like Ree, sort of think she’s kind of a blog goddess. Here’s the blog I wrote in her honor.

TBH: How many kids do you have, and what ages?

Amanda: My Hubby and I are the proud parents of two very lively, very rowdy boys, ages 4 and 10 months!

TBH: What do you do with any free time you find yourself with?

Amanda: Free time?!  Yah, right! As a SAHM there’s not a ton of time for that but when I do get some much needed “space”, I really enjoy reading and recently have discovered that I love working out! I also enjoy researching books to read to my kids and looking for new recipes to try out on my family. ‘Course if I was given a free day to do anything I wanted, I could spend it locked inside my house in front of the computer reading other peoples blogs and adding to my own!

TBH: What are some of your favorite things about being a parent?

Amanda: I feel terrible admitting this but this is a tough question! It’s easy for me to go over the list of things that drive me crazy about being a Mommy but my favorites are hard to pin point. I guess that’s because my favorites are such simple things like those morning hugs I get everyday when they first wake up. Or seeing the excitement in their eyes when they learn something new. I love the way my Youngest lights up when he sees his older brother and how he’s the only one who can really get him giggling! I have loved being there for every moment in their young lives so far and look forward to the next 17 years of being there!

TBH: What tips or practical advice do you have for other moms like yourself?

Amanda: The best advice I can give any parent whether it be expecting parents, newbies or old vets is this… capture the moments whether they be BIG or little. By capturing I don’t just mean to take pictures often, video tape things you think they might enjoy seeing one day, or writing the things down that they say that have you in stitches… by”capturing” I mean to really just be in the moment with your kids, everyday. Spend your time wisely, they don’t stay little very long!

TBH: Give us a picture of a typical day for you.

Amanda: A typical day in the land of Adventures In Motherhood starts with that little thing I like to call “space” or free time as referred to above. The boys get up everyday at about the same time and expect to be fed at 7:30 sharp so I try and drag my sleepy butt outta bed ahead of them so I can have my peace. After breakfast we spend the remainder of our morning dancing to music, reading books, creating art, watching cartoons or just playing with toys. Of course I also spend a good chunk of that time fixing block castles that Youngest Son has destroyed, taking back MatchBox cars that Youngest Son has stolen from Oldest son and wiping the tears that come w/ each of these tender moments! In other words I do a lot of refereeing!!! This pretty much plays in a loop off and on all day pausing occasionally for meals! Then I send them off to bed so I can blog!

TBH: Do you monetize your blog?  If yes, in what ways?

Amanda: No… that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to though!

TBH: One of the biggest things people struggle with when it comes to blogging is posting content on a regular basis. Where do you get your inspiration for blog posts?

Amanda: Plain and simple… my kids! They inspire me everyday to write. I can be having the worst day at home with them and somehow turn it into a great post. One thing I’ve learned from blogging is that anything goes, it doesn’t always have to be a masterpiece, it just has to be something someone else can relate to.

TBH: What is your best advice for other moms out there looking to start a blog?

Amanda: DO IT! It is so rewarding in so many ways. Don’t be afraid to write about what you love, the inspiration will always be there. Comment, comment, comment… it’s a great way to connect with bloggers just like you and you’ll appreciate a little “blog love” in return when you do start one of your own!

TBH: Anything else you would like to share with readers of The Baby Habit?

Amanda: Thanks to The Baby Habit for giving me this opportunity to share my stories with all of you! And please, please, please come check out my blog! I would love to add a whole slew of new followers and promise to send some “blog love” back your way! I post stories, pictures and quotes from my Oldest kid weekly… he’s pretty hilarious, the Youngest is too, he just can’t talk yet! For a sneak peek into our adventures, check out a few of my favorite posts! Cleaning Lady Needed, and A Very Bad, Terrible, Awful Crappy Day or click on one of the pictures.
